Website 2 - dislike

I think this website could use revamping or re-doing based on this non-profit's goals and what they have to offer the community.  The welcome page seems to have alot of ads but doesn't tell me what the site is about - who, what where and so on...  The url palosverdes.com/pvnet/index.html is much better and easier to navigate and go from page to page.   The last url palosverdes.com/  which appears to be the welcome page seems to focus on ads which has center stage. The site is confusing.

If you stumble onto the following pages initially - presentation is better - but consistency within pages is lacking.

I dont care for this student's portfolio - the video clip flickers and is annoying.  The "button" seems too large to scroll through work and sometimes links it takes me to is not helpful or interests me for further viewing.   I think he should be more selective about work he put 'out there.'   There's no explanation what he's selling when he suggests we contact him for a quote.

I like Adrian Newell's portfolio website because it is very clean - white backgrounds with minimum of clutter.  The links we click on all load quickly so my interest is sustained.  The colors are all very fresh.  The portfolio pieces eg placed in magazines are photographed in middle grey tones, again so portfolio piece will shine against the simple grey and not clash...

I am very interested in photography and the website for Emet Martinez has a simple background with simple typography and generally easy to navigate and showcases photography beautifully with simple background eg black & grey.  The images which pop up are large and takes advantage of the screen available.  There are many pages on the website and use of it is seamless & easy.

Why take Art 146 Designing for the www?

I look forward to building a beautiful, easy to navigate website which also holds someone's attention, eg the images will load quickly and show detail and links will work!  At the same time - I am nervous about the mysteries of html, coding, all the lingo I don't get and not being familiar with Dreamweaver.  Hopefully, Dreamweaver CS3 version I have will be good enough.  I should have my graphic design certificate by semester's end and hopefully, can contribute skills learned to some non-profit organization.
